Is GitCode Viewer free?

Free to use with no account required. Some advanced features require upgrading to the premium version.

Which programming languages and code formats are supported?

Syntax highlighting covers 30+ programming languages and 100+ file extensions. Major languages (C, C++, C#, Go, Rust, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, Bash, and more) also get code outline and symbol navigation.

Which document formats can it preview?

Markdown, PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RTF, CSV / TSV, Mermaid diagrams, and Jupyter notebooks.

Does it provide AI services?

No. The AI assistant requires you to bring your own API key. The app is fully offline — your key is encrypted and stored only on your phone, never sent anywhere, and it can't be viewed again once saved.

Can the AI assistant modify my code?

No. The AI assistant helps you understand, learn, explore, and search code, but it can't modify or run code. For that, we recommend dedicated desktop tools such as Codex or Claude Code.

Any tips for using the AI?

Beyond reading code, the AI can also read Office / PDF documents, view Git commit history, and save documents. Just describe what you want in natural language and it will use these abilities for you.

Which AI model should I choose?

Since the app doesn't write code itself, a good-value mainstream model is usually enough and keeps token costs low. We recommend models that support thinking / streaming.

Which Git providers does GitCode Viewer support?

GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, Gitea, Gitee, and CNB, as well as self-hosted Git servers - including servers on your intranet.

Does it support SSH and private repositories?

Yes. You can connect over SSH or with access tokens, and credentials are stored only on your device.

Can I read repositories offline?

Yes. After cloning, code, documents, and full Git history are all available offline.

Is the premium upgrade shared between Android and iOS?

No. Upgrades are billed through each app store: a purchase made on Google Play cannot be used on iOS, and vice versa. Switching platforms requires purchasing the upgrade again in the respective store.

What's the difference between the China and international versions on the App Store?

Functionally, nothing. To comply with Chinese regulations, the mainland China version ships without presets for AI providers like OpenAI — you can still add them manually with a custom base URL. In the China version, the "OpenAI compatible" and "Anthropic compatible" labels appear as "Chat compatible" and "Messages compatible". Everything else is identical.

No. It collects no analytics, no tracking, and no telemetry. Network traffic goes directly between your device and your Git provider.
